Riverside Energy Systems is a Kamloops based company that engineers and installs photovoltaic systems around BC. Recently we have expanded our services to provide solar training for a number of First Nations Bands in the Thompson-Okanagan area. We are honoured to announce that we have been invited to deliver inaugural training in partnership with the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) for the Upper Nicola Band in preparation for their recently announced 15 Megawatt solar project.

Training is to be held at NVIT’s Centre of Excellence in Sustainability building, a new state of the art facility where Riverside Energy Systems recently installed 34 Kilowatts of solar for energy generation and educational purposes. This will be the first use of the facility and is keeping with VP John Chenoweth’s vision for NVIT as a provider of training in sustainability.

Upper Nicola Band Councillor David Lindley recently approached NVIT about solar technology training / capacity building for the community, who subsequently recommended partnering with Riverside Energy Systems. Our experience in post-secondary education uniquely equips Riverside for educational roles. Riverside Energy Systems Director Ben Giudici—a former Thompson Rivers University faculty member — will deliver a five day boot camp “Introduction to Grid-Connected Solar PV Systems” at the NVIT Centre for Excellence in Sustainability beginning July 16, 2018.

The course will cover the essentials of a solar project from start to finish, including approaches to grid-connected solar in BC, site assessment techniques and tools, components of solar PV generation systems, basic design fundamentals, and installation practices. Students will come away with immediately applicable skills, and newfound knowledge of one of the leading technologies in sustainable energy.

The Upper Nicola Band’s 15 Megawatt solar PV project is of an unprecedented size in BC, and sends a clear message of commitment to sustainability on behalf of the band. Riverside Energy Systems is proud to be supporting the Upper Nicola Band’s vision, and we look forward to sharing our solar PV knowledge and expertise.
