How We Helped
We worked closely with the community to design and install solar systems on three key buildings: the community school, the school after-care center, and the band office. In addition to the installations, we partnered with NVIT (Nicola Valley Institute of Technology) to provide students with hands-on and classroom solar training. The Nuxalk community was especially excited about the training program. Students gained valuable skills through hands-on experience and classroom learning, building local capacity for solar installations.
The Results
- Energy Independence: The solar systems are helping to reduce the community’s reliance on diesel generators.

What Nuxalk Wanted to Achieve
The Nuxalk Nation is part of a Non-Integrated Area, which means the community relies on diesel generators for power. They wanted to reduce their dependence on generators to save money, lower emissions, and create a more sustainable energy system.
